Research Interests
Taxonomy and distribution of amphibians and reptiles in North, Central, and South America; curation, care, and management of natural history collections; ecology of desert snakes; ecology of island reptiles.
Has senior responsibility for operation of the Biological Survey Unit; takes the lead in representing the Unit to the USGS and the Patuxent Wildlife Research Center, maintaining relations with the Smithsonian Institution's Department of Vertebrate Zoology, supervising the Unit's technical staff, and coordinating and supporting the Unit's administrative, scientific, and curatorial operations of the Unit. Serves as leader of the Curation of North American Vertebrates Project for USGS collection management responsibilities at the National Museum of Natural History. Develops field studies of amphibians and reptiles to document distributions and biodiversity through the collection and permanent archiving of biological samples and associated data.
